Nvidia Tackles Integrated Video’s Poor Gaming Performance with New Tool
Nvidia is trying to correct the popular misconception that the CPU speed and number of cores is the only indicator of PC performance. A new webpage trys to educate consumers on the merits of a “balanced PC”. We have touched on this issue before with our post on how integrated video is bad for gaming, Rule Number One when Buying a Gaming Machine. Most of the PCs sold today are shipped with integrated video cards that use shared system memory and are simply not designed for gaming.
There is no question that the poor gaming performance of PCs purchased from big box retailers and office stores has really hurt PC gaming and driven consumers to consoles. However, ironically, if you really want leading edge performance you will not find it there either. If you want to push the envelope you need a PC with a recent generation dedicated video card.
If you are in the market for a new card the nvidias 8800 series are a steal, if you are looking for newer tech then try nvidias 9600 series or 9800s.
But in any case buy your PCs and motherboards without built in or integrated video, and save some money for a great video card as nvidia suggests.
