In Kingdom of the Wind you have a floating castle that you defend by deploying units on the right or the left side of the castle. Once deployed your units will advance and defend your castle to the best of their ability. If an enemy unit breaks through your defenses your castle has some ability to defend and repair itself, while you rebuild and deploy additional units. The goal is defend the castle for 8 days (waves). The focus is on unit upgrade and advancement that occurs both during the round and between rounds. Make sure you take advantage of the opportunity to upgrade between rounds by selecting the upgrade button at the bottom of the screen that appears between the rounds. It can be easy to miss.
Normally we would not place a real time strategy game on our free games blog. We try to focus on casual games with an emphasis on short fun re-playable games. Kingdom of the Winds meets our criteria even though most other real time strategy games do not. Kingdom of the Winds can best be described as real time strategy-light. You do not have to worry about gathering resources, directing individual units or other minutiae. The game also lasts for a maximum of eight waves so it is relatively short. It also is nice that if your castle is destroyed in a round you can use experience gained to upgrade your units for another try at the round you just failed. In other words the game is somewhat forgiving, which most real time strategy games are not. All in all it is a great little game!
