Game Giants: We Will Not Spam Our Customers!

Dear Game Giants Customer,

Six years ago I began our small business selling computer components and video games online. In six years this will be only the second email we have sent to all our gamegiants customers in that time.

This email was prompted by a somewhat heated discussion I had yesterday with a representative from one of our download and play game providers, which happens to be owned by a very large online multinational retailer. He was concerned that we were not sending out frequent email newsletter and advertisements to all our customers. In his opinion he felt that our repeat sales from return customers was likely very low because of this. In short he was pressuring us to spam our customers. My response to his request was “We will not spam!”

Personally, I hate spam email. I receive hundreds of advertisements and newsletters everyday on all my email accounts, even with the best of email filters. When I first started selling online I vowed that we would run a different sort of online business. Today, ironically via email, I renew my promise with our customers. We will not sell your personal information or send out “frequent” newsletters or advertisements. If that hurts our “repeat sales” so be it!
